On That Day

On that day, the sun withdrew behind the clouds.

On that day, birds did not fly.

On that day, rain fell on every inch of land and water.

On that day, every Human fell to his or her knees, sobbing to the ground, crying out to the skies.

On that day, shadows vanished; statues changed shape.

Buildings grew darker, opulence was poverty, light was darker.

Plants refused to sprout; trees refused to grow.

On that day, every living and nonliving thing mourned for the loss Existence had sustained.
