A small toddler cried as he sat atop a large piece of concrete rubble in the middle of a desecrated city.
Obergefreiter Fredericks emerged from the hidden bunker beneath the city, to hear the ear-splitting sound of the boy’s cries. He located the boy quickly, and as soon as the young toddler saw Fredericks’ helmet, he stopped crying and smiled.
The soldier couldn’t help but smile back.
“What’s your name, little boy?” asked Fredericks.
“Smiley-sun!” responded the boy excitedly.
“Very fitting,” said Fredericks as he took the boy’s hand and led him down into the city’s underground as the Air Strike alarm resumed its shrill howl.
