9-11-01: Afternoon in Leominster, MA part 3

Hunter’s older half-sisters (4 and 6 years old) were in school. Mel said the schools had let parents know they were strictly not speaking about the events, so that parents could decide on their own what to say.

Like the parents have any ideas either.

She told me that people in the area were very concerned about terrorist attacks, since we were down the street from the Fitchburg Air Strip.

I snorted. “Most people in Massachusetts don’t know where Fitchburg is. They think the terrorists are gonna find us?”

We watched The History Channel. During a commercial break, they posted a quote from FDR about the attacks on Pearl Harbor, then spun the words around and posted a quote from G.W. Bush.

(This is now a regular feature on David Letterman’s show, and a source of wry amusement for Mom.)

I laughed and said that they probably shouldn’t do comparisons.
