Now sit back and watch the story unfold
With the fair Juliet and her Romeo

“I had a dream that I was pregnant, and everyone knew but you.”

“Oh yeah, why didn’t I know?” he asked, not really paying attention to the conversation.

“I don’t know, but you were the only one, and you were mad at me the whole dream because I wouldn’t do anything that would harm the baby and you didn’t know what my problem was…” The words came out in a rush, and then trailed off, leaving me unsure and not wanting to finish. Trying to block out reality, all the while knowing this had to end, and certainly couldn’t end well, I started humming.

Two young lovers with one heartbeat...

“I think the real Juliet had it going for her,” I sighed, already sick of his inane dialogue.

“Oh yeah, why is that?”

“Because she and Romeo shared a night, and it didn’t come back to slap them in the face.”

“Good for them,” a light dawned in his eyes, “Wait- you mean-”

“That everyone knows but you.”

    we just finished reading romeo and juliet toda in my english honors class. how different the story would have been if juliet had gotten pregnant…

    Nicely written ficlet – this is what it’s all about. I’ve been tempted to write stories about dreams I’ve had as well – my dreams are too strange to write about though. The last one was about a race war in Chicago.

    Lovely little piece, dramatic yet self-contained with a nice reveal. I wound up writing a novella because of an odd dream, so I’m all for using nightly visions as a source! And really, Yoda, yikes.
