Fairy Tales Can Come True
Erma Loveless had expected her new employer to be like the fabled Mr. Rochester from the Bronte book Jane Eyre.
She imagined him to be tall, dark and handsome, a Prince Charming.
So she was taken by surprise when in limped a stooped shouldered, bespectacled young man with a pale complexion.
He was accompanied by a tall, manish woman.
“Erma Loveless, this is my son, Roderick, the Baron,” his mother, Lady Goldenrod said , in a three pack a day husky smokers voice.
“Pleased to meet you,” Erma nervously said.
For years she rode her bicycle past Castle Goldenrod and imagined being inside it’s majestic walls and falling in love with the Baron of the castle.
That fantasy was now shattered.
More so when the present Baron stuttered, ” H..how d..do…you..d..do?”
“Mumsy has to go now ta ta,” said Lady Goldenrod as she exited.
Baron Goldenrod immediately straightened his shoulders, and looked taller. He said, “May I show you to your room now?,” and smiled.
Erma beamed. Her fairy tale had come true.
