October
Autumn and winter
Summer and spring
October’s the one
that pleasure will bring.
You start off the month
with your mother’s birthday—
on the 9th.
You say a prayer for her memory,
and remember to wear a hint of black
that day.
As the month progresses,
the air cools down
the sky reverts to a customary shade
of dull gray.
You are filled with joy each day
walking home from the bus stop—
breathing in the cold autumn air.
It sends a burst of energy to your lungs.
You get to go shopping
and buy cute cold-season clothing.
Halloween comes—
You and your buds make the cutest trio ever
as Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and Wendy
you start living on candy.
Then October leaves—
the air grows even colder—
and you whisper “farewell.”
“Goodbye, October, til next year.”
Autumn and winter
Summer and spring
October’s the one
that pleasure will bring…
