The Freefall
It has been said that people cannot do the impossible. But no one ever offered an explanation as to why not. So what Kate was doing at this moment was something people are not supposed to do.
She was going to fly.
Kate had been reading a book that stated “All you have to do is simply throw yourself at the ground
and miss.”
So Kate was standing on the edge of an impossibly tall building, with an impossibly calm look on her face, at the conclusion of an impossibly stupid decision. She was ready to do the impossible.
She closed her eyes and pushed off the building.
Her freefall felt like those dreams, where you wake up thanking God you weren’t really falling. She plunged into the unknown, cutting through the air with her hands. She pointed herself at the ground, an eagle going in for the kill. It was the dive that never ended. The epic peak of her lifetime. It felt like she would fall forever, never to touch the earth again.
And geuss what? She never did.
