The Experiment
I am aware of what is happening. They are naïve and ignorant; they will believe what they want to.
It only takes a few moments to strangle the life out of the white around me. They collapse on the floor; their blood on the walls.
I know he will come running. I can read his mind and I know this is his fault.
I watch him through bloodshot eyes. I feel the power from inside me; the regeneration of red in my body.
“Cate, it’s me. Dan. I’m here to-”
I clench my hands on his groin, rendering him speechless. “Why am I like this?” I rasp.
For the first time, I see desperation in her eyes. She is scared. I unclamp her hands and place them by her side. She eyes me with contempt and curiosity; her face as pale as the walls that have surrounded her for years.
“I had to leave you here Cate, when it all started going wrong. There was nothing I could do. You became…different.”
Her face changes; fear envelops her eyes.
“What am I?”
I breathe thick air; prepare myself.
“You…are the creation of an experiment.”
