Magic's Mark [9]
Ritchie awoke with a jolt to cold water on his face.
“What happened?” he asked quietly.
“You tried to do magic being completely ignorant.” Ritchie looked down at his hands, knowing he had been wrong to try and wrong to irritate Maria as he had.
“I’m sorry.” he whispered.
“It’s ok,” Maria replied exasperatedly. “It’s not really your fault you couldn’t do it.” Ritchie shot her a quizzical look.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, since you’ve not reached 17 Octobers, you can’t really do magic. Also, you’ve got blocks in your mind to the magi ways.”
“How does that work?” Ritchie seemed intrigued by all of this and Maria was relieved that finally she was teaching him something and not getting furious.
“Well, the magi are all connected in their minds, but you can’t access those lines of communication until you know who you are. That’s why I’ve been trying to teach you all about your magi-family history. That way, you’ll be able to see into my mind and communicate with me and vice versa.”
Ritchie nodded. “Teach away, then.”
