Returned to Life

It was a monster. Mrs. Robbin could think of nothing else that would describe this thing standing before her. She wished to call it a person, but the mutilated face was repulsive to her.

“Mom?” the person said.

Mrs. Robbin looked at the person, woman. She finally recognized her, the same voice, the same necklace she’d worn since high school. It was Diana. Her daughter wasn’t dead. Mrs.Robbin forgot all about her daughter’s hideous face at that moment. She wrenched herself out of the boy’s grip to give her daughter a whole-hearted hug.

Her daughter was here, everything would be alright. A tear fell onto her face, not her own.

Her daughter looked down at her. Her face was deep red, her nose broken, her skin covered with gashes and bruises. Her eyelids were nearly seethrough. Her hair was in tangles. Her hands shook from exhaustion as she gently pushed her mother away.

“You’ll be alright, but Tyler won’t be. I can guarantee you that.”

Mrs. Robbin looked on confusedly as Diana walked away.
