The Archer's Reason
“But why did he have to leave?” Lyra asked her mentor, sobbing. It had been two days since Archer had left.
Her mentor smiled sympathetically, “Archer is a wanderer, he doesn’t quite know himself. The thing about a journey is that it tends to bring us face to face with ourselves.”
“He said that he might come back in better times and that we might start a life together.” She said, sniffling.
Her mentor’s face held a carefully blank expression and said, “I’m sure that he means to do just that.”
Lyra smiled and said, “Thanks, I feel much better.”
As Lyra walked away, her mentor watched her go. He didn’t want to give her false hope, but there was no choice. Archer was a skilled fighter, but he knew there was no chance that he would survive. Before turning his mind to other matters, he speculated on how long Archer would last until he was turned into a Ghoul.
