What Gram Doesn't Know (pt. 1)

What Gram didn’t know wouldn’t hurt her, he thought.

That was a stupid thing to think. Gram knew almost everything. It was her third eye that let her do it. His Mom and Dad used to laugh whenever the subject came up, so it didn’t come up often. But Simon had seen it himself.

The very first time was when he was eight, the family had been down to visit Gram and he’d awakened in the middle of the night needing to pee. He’d crept down the hall to the bathroom, done his business, and was creeping back when he noticed the light from downstairs. Television light, flickering and blue, and Simon thought maybe his Dad had gotten up, unable to sleep, and gone downstairs to watch an old Star Trek episode. His Dad did that sometimes, and sometimes when Simon woke up and caught him, Dad sent him back to bed. But sometimes, his Dad would pat the cushion next to him. During the commercials, his Dad would tell him who’d written the episode, and what else he’d done. His Dad liked the Robert Bloch episodes the best.
