The second sentence seems clumsy and repetitive. Perhaps a bit of a run-on?

I don’t think so. Probably because ‘Gram’s’ was used twice. ‘She’ probably would have been better.

Fixed. This was written in a quick burst, and wasn’t edited. In fact, I’m a little surprised it got readers as I was rolling it out. But thank you for the input!

For me, it wasn’t so much the use of ‘Gram’s’ but the use of ‘summer’ twice in a very short span. ”…spend so much time every summer down at Gram’s, even though it was hot and humid down there in the summer…”

Fixed again.
