Moments
My head was in his lap. I was looking up at him, he down at me. He smiled – my heart skipped a beat. His fingers were intertwined with my hair. It was silent until he sighed quietly and whispered those two words that every little girl dreams of hearing from her prince charming – “You’re beautiful”. There was a lack of confidence when he said it, as if he were afraid of my response. I muttered a “thank you” as I tried to slow my heart beat down with long deep breaths. Moments, or maybe hours, later, he spoke again. “I think I could stay here forever”. Why do you think that is, I asked. “Because I never really get tired of looking at you”. This time no words came out. Only a smile. Then I crawled into his lap and lay my head on his chest. I wanted to hear his heartbeat.
