Woman of Ice

Their faces were dangerously close to each other. Yasuo’s fingers, threaded through the woman’s hair, gripped tightly enough most would have flinched. Not Cari. No, her face remained coldly unconcerned.

“Heaven help me, I’ll break you.â€? He whispered with passion and pain entwined.

His lips trembled against hers as the words spilled from him. The touch was close to the kiss he knew he desired, but not enough. Cari never gave him enough. She never would, but he’d never stop trying. He’d never stop wanting the taste of her.

She looked up at Yasuo with half-lidded eyes. Those cold, grey orbs reflected everything she was—A woman of ice.

“You’re welcomed to try,â€? she said to him, “but you’ll fail.â€?

“I meant something to you once.â€?

He jerked her body closer with his free arm. He savored even that insignificant touch.

“You saw only what you wanted to see.â€?

He choked on a breath. No, it had been real.

“You lie.â€?

She laughed darkly at him, “I may have been many things, but I am never a liar.â€?
