I challenged myself to write in the first person future tense and this is what I came up with.
I’ll be walking down the street one evening, and I’ll hear a voice before I see her. Singing a soft nursery rhyme in a language that I wont recognize.
She’ll be skipping on the road and I’ll wonder what a little girl is doing out at that hour. I’ll be sure that I know all the kids in the area, but I won’t recognize her.
Her sickly pale face will turn towards me, and I’ll know that she recognizes me. Her voice will be soft and sweet in my head.
“You know me.” She’ll say with out moving her lips, as she’ll take a step towards me.
“No, I don’t.” I’ll say and I’ll stop walking dead in my tracks.
The street lights will flicker when her voices comes again. “Yes you do.” Her expression will not change as her words flood my head.
Involuntarily my eyes will squeeze shut, but I’ll still be able to see her. “Don’t be afraid.” she’ll sooth, but this time I see her form the words with her mouth. She’ll reach out and touch me. I’ll fell her pour into me. Painlessly I’ll feel myself slip away, before I skip away.
