You are but a memory

A slight sadness swept across me today
I saw your old picture & realized my love for you had faded away
I remember how my day was brighter when you were near
Any word you spoke I had once longed to hear
It was once hard to see that time of my life over and gone
Less and less of you I remember with each new dawn
You are but a memory buried deep inside
Pain for you I no longer have to hide
The tears that once rolled down my cheeks
Have dried and gone for many weeks
Laughter and smiles have returned to me
My heart has mended since you returned its key
I can no longer remember your touch or face
Funny how time has a way of knowing just what to erase
