Patience is a Virtue
I couldn’t leave her alone, it was 4am and I was exhausted by her antics. The caffeine I depended on was wearing off, what little energy I had left was dissipating fast.
“I need to lock the door.â? She said.
“There is no lock on the door, it’s OK Pennyâ? I replied wearily.
“Ok, you lock itâ?
“There is no lockâ?
Her tiny hand felt along the door and wall searching for a lock that wasn’t there. The dementia in combination with her partial blindness made not just her life, but every one else’s, difficult.
“I need to lock the door!!!!â? she repeated raising her voice and shaking the door slightly in frustration.
“You need to go to sleep.â? I said still calm.
“Please don’t shout dear-heart, you don’t want to wake everyone in the house do you?â?
“What time is it?â?
“4 amâ?
“What?â?
“4 in the morningâ?
“Really?â?
“Really dear-heartâ?
“I’ll go to bed after I lock the doorâ?
“There is no lockâ?
“Ok, you lock itâ?
I slumped against the wall, sliding to the floor.
“Penny, do you know the meaning of the word ‘Deliverance’?â?
