Guarded Obedience (Daniel Gate)
Daniel was out the door and down the stairs before he had thought about what he was doing. Once he had, he dug his phone out and dialed.
“Where the hell are you?”
“Lucas, I can’t make it. Something’s come up. I need you to do me a favor.”
“Dan—“
“Seriously. If I don’t call you in two hours, be worried, okay?”
“What’s going on?”
“I can’t explain. Just do this for me.”
“All right. Be careful, okay?”
“I will.” Daniel snapped his phone shut as he reached the first floor. He went out the front door and found himself in the alley. As he headed to the street, he saw taxi #42 waiting.
Daniel got in. “Blue Cayman Quay, berth 7,” he told the cabby. “And hurry.” The driver pulled the car away from the alley without a word.
Daniel jumped as his phone beeped. He opened it to see a text message:
We thank you for your tenacity. You came highly recommended, and we are not disappointed. Your journey should be an uneventful one. However, remain alert.
