The New Ones: BTW, No Refreshments Will Be Served

I looked over toward the front of the church as the new one busted in; all in a frenzied panic. I sighed as much as a spirit can and propelled myself off my perch on the back pew.

Seeing the coffin there, along with all the mourners, I bent my head in my own silent goodbye.

Yeah, this is a funeral. One of the lucky ones, I guess. They just die and move on. Not even sticking around to tell us how to get the heck out of here.

I gave up looking a long time ago. Just take my place at the back and wait.

I walked over to the new ones. Yeah, I walked. Took me a while to figure out how to stop the whole floating thing, but once I got it, it never left me. Kind of like riding a bike.

You can always tell the new ones. A sort of panicked look on their faces. Always a lot of yelling with no sound. We sort of communicate with emotions. No noises at all. We still move our mouths and go through the motions. It’s a crappy job.

So, this is the party. By the way, no refreshments will be served.
