Orange Sunset
The sun was shining through the clouds in a bright yellow- orange. It blinded me to look at it. But I continued to stare in that direction as they walked away from me. I would never forgive them. A tear squeezed out of my eye, whether from the light of the sun or my hurt emotions I don’t know, but it fell to the sand and landed with a depressing plop and wriggled away from me.
The wind ruffles through my hair, my cloak whips gently around my ankles. The sound of their footsteps is slowly fading, I can imagine their dark forms growing smaller and smaller as they walk away from me.
As I gaze at the sunset I think back to the days when we were as one, working together. But as the colors of the sunset separate and disappear, so did our friendship. And now, they leave me on this beach with nothing but a memory and an orange sunset.
