In The Car
They ran out of gas ten miles from town. “Great! Now what!” Olivia screamed as the car rolled to a stop. “We’re stuck in a snowstorm in the middle of the night.”
Paul tried to remain calm, tried to be the voice of reason. “Well, it would take over two hours to walk to town. Are you sure your cell phone battery is dead?”
“See for yourself!” She flung the phone into his lap. He fumbled for it in the dark and found that the screen wouldn’t even light up. Looking up, he noticed that snow was starting to pile up on the windshield, blocking the view of the outside world.
“I know I’m the last person on Earth that you want to be stuck in a car with. But we can figure this out. We’ll figure out what to do.” Paul hoped he sounded more sure of himself than he actually was.
“You don’t understand.” Olivia’s tears streamed down. “Everyone will think I did this on purpose. And you will find out how I really feel about you.”
“How do you feel about me?”
“I’ve got to get out of this car!”
