Ficlets

A Sophomore Philosopher

“Gosh, why does history have to be soooo boring?” I sighed, rolling onto my back, the text book bouncing tantalizingly on the edge.

“It’s not that bad, Jen,” my best friend, Carrie, stated, her nose buried in the book.

“Well, that’s because the cause and effect of wars and how this stupid country, where they force you to spend hours reading about subjects that are seemingly irrelevant, was established is at least a little bit interesting to you!”

“Actually, I don’t even like history all that much because it’s so redundant, but that’s the point. Whenever you ask a history teacher why we study history, it’s because history repeats itself, and we don’t want to make the same mistakes. I just study so hard so I can get an A on the test, which comes easier when you have a positive attitude.”

“You know, you’re right. Teachers do always say that. That’s history; they repeat themselves, and they’re making mistakes spending time teaching us this stuff. Why don’t we study everday history, like Internet history?”
