Kayla's Poem

She was five weeks premature and on an oxygen tank,
the doctors said there were many complications.

The newborn in a blanket should have been a sweet sight,
but the tubes and IV needle ruined the picture.
Kayla was laying in an incubator in an intensive care unit.

By the time she was two weeks old, I still had not seen her face,
Everyone talked about how precious she looked,
and how small her hands and feet were,
but there were no signs of improvement.

But one day we visited and to our surprise,
there were smiles on the faces of my sister and her husband.
They said the doctors could not even explain,
the great miracle that had taken place.

In just one night Kayla had begun to breath on her own,
and she no longer needed the IV needle in her arm,
Kayla was well enough to be held,
and she was out of intensive care.

I was so proud, holding my niece in my arms.
She was so small and still underweight,
but she was so beautiful.

Now I believe in miracles,
and God still makes my life amazing and full of love.
