Snapshots Recovered from the Flood (p.2)

“Alright everybody, let’s quiet down.” said the teacher to her Kindergarten class. “Now, we’re going to say goodbye to Joyce. She has to go back to Florida. Do you guys know where that is?”

The class all looked at each other, none of them knew.

“See this map? It’s all the way over here, on the right side of America. See it? She’s going to be right there.” The teacher pointed at Jacksonville on the map. “And we’re going to be all the way over on the left here.”

I looked all around at the airport full of people as I was dragged along by the flight attendant. My green and pink backpack full of markers and crayons bounced on my back.

Going on another plane really wasn’t a big deal, I was happy to be going back to Florida. Maybe I’d get to see the new horse my Georgia grandparents had just recently gotten.

I cautiously let my mind wander and think, who was I going to live with when I finally did get back to Florida?
