I hate to be the stickler, especially since it takes so many more letters to write than “schizophrenia,” but any psychiatrist would know that schizophrenia is experiencing hallucinations- sights, sounds, smells- as reality when they are not. What is exhibited in this dialogue is dissociative identity disorder, formerly known as multiple personality disorder.
As someone who’s read lots on psychology, I have to admit that Ariel Christian is 100% correct. Though people commonly think of schizophrenics as having MPD , they typically do not.
Nicely done & I agree that the part at the end was a good twist… I didn’t see the original part about schizophrenia – looks like you cleaned that up nicely. I didn’t notice any inconsistencies / errors now. Great work as usual, Ana.
Great dialogue (or monologue)! I think the “jump cut” hurt the pace of an otherwise excellent plot twist… but all in all it was an impressive piece of writing. Thanks for entering my challenge!
Can’t believe I missed a chance to comment on the appropriate use of psychiatric terms. Must have been half asleep on that day. Although for further clarification, hallucinating is a sign of ‘psychosis’, which is a symptom of several psychiatric diagnoses including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression with psychotic features, delerium, Bonet Syndrome, schizoaffective…nevermind. I’m rambling. In any case, hallucinations are just one possible symptom of schizophrenia.
