Long Sword (Daniel Gate)
“It’s a pleasure to see you again, Daniel-san,” said Nobutoshi. “As you know, I have had an opportunity to meet with Hideki myself. Our discussion was fruitful.”
Daniel nodded. “The message you sent said as much. I anticipate you have further work for me.”
“Indeed I do! Hideki has discovered that the KokuryĆ«-kai have imported an ancient family katana for an upcoming ceremony. We would like you to retrieve it for us.”
“Is that all? I shall phone them and ask them to have it ready.”
“I enjoy your humour, Daniel-san,” Nobutoshi laughed. “Once you retrieve the sword, Hideki will claim responsibility. After a reasonable time, I shall ‘recover’ and return it. The gratitude should be enough payment for me to sever my links with the KokuryĆ«-kai.”
Daniels brow furrowed. “Why would Hideki risk this?”
“Fortunate timing, Daniel-san. He has been planning to escalate the feud between the two families. He gains much from your success, yet has little to lose should you fail; you would appear to be a simple thief.”
