Jane hung on Luis’ wall above a small fireplace containing two burnt logs. Her viewing window was encased in shiny black metal just like Philip or Alexander or any of the other monitors that filled the buildings. However, that’s about the only thing they had in common.
Mothers are relieved of their children at five or six years old. They are placed in their own apartment with an attendant who shows up less and less as they grow up. As the child grows, the monitor choses a personality that will offer the closest relationship and most influence on them.
