An Unexpected Implication

They’d been wandering for days, and they’d found nothing. Was this all that was left of their world? Tentatively, Clive tried the radio against the far wall. Not so much as a crackle.

“This is what happens,” said Brian, “When Politicians control the assets on our planet. Until they learn to let the people—“

“Gordon Bennett,” said Dave. “If he’s going to keep yammering on like that I might just shoot myself.”

“Give him a break,” said Clive, fiddling with the radio dials in vain. “He’s just… a little off.”

“I don’t know why we let Brian come.”

“Because,” said Clive, in a matter-of-fact tone, “He’s smarter than Einstein, Hawking and Kutcher combined. Tell you what, when you provide the equations to safely dispose of toxic matter, let me know, okay?”

“But his equations didn’t work, did they? That’s the very reason we’re in this mess.”

“Just shut up, alright? Why do you have to be so negative?”

He turned back to the radio. Somehow, he felt he would be doing this for a long, long time…
