A Book Between Friends

“You have it?” Dean asked eagerly, fidgeting from one foot to the other on the front porch.
“Of course. When I promise, I deliver,” Sean boasted.
“Can I see it?”
“You gonna’ come in? It’s bright out there.”
“Um…” Dean hesitated.
“Oh, get in here, you doofus.” The two scurried past Sean’s mom in the kitchen, busy making another inevitable failure of a cooking experiment. Dean lingered just enough for one longing look.
“So where is it?” he asked once they’d made it to Sean’s room and secured the door against intrusion by any one of the seven sibling cavorting about the cramped house.
“Keep yer pants on, numbnut. I have to keep it hidden. My mom’d seriously wig out.”
“Yeah, yer mom,” Dean said a little absently.
After a modicum of rummaging in a disorganized closet, Sean emerged with the tome, the volume, the sacred text. Dean’s eyes went wide. Sean beamed proudly.
“I give you, A Practical Guide to Vampirism.”
“Wow, who’d you have to kill to get that?” Dean whispered.
“You don’t want to know.”
