The Butcher
Laraine walked through the quiet supermarket, rehearsing her shopping list in her head.
Sugar, juice, beef…Sugar, juice, beef… She had a habit of forgetting things, so constantly repeating it in her head was the only way to keep her mind on it.
She had already gotten her sugar, and her grape juice for the mornings. All that was left was the…beef that was on sale for $1.49 a pound.
She guided her cart carefully to the back of the store. When she reached the section she was looking for, Laraine noticed that there was a man, in a gray sweatshirt standing in her way.
And, what’s more, he was…handling meat Oh no, no. Not here, not those thoughts… She couldn’t help herself. She walked up behind the man and brushed gently against him, and whispered in his ear.
“Sir, when you’re tired from a long day of handling all this meat, just call me up and I’ll handle yours...” She smiled in his ear and slipped him a business card.
She then quickly left the store. How could she have done that!?
