Ficlets

Prisoners of war-Big dreams but a short life.

They lined us up.
Like criminals awaiting our sentence.
We stood their for several days.
We couldn’t move.
They beat us.
If we tried to protect one another, we were thrown into a prison for an extra 20 or 30 years.
Why did we stand there?
Why were we punished for protecting our country?

I made a friend with the person who stood behind me on the line.
His name was Adam.
We talked when the guards weren’t looking.
Adam was a good guy, and since i couldn’t turn around to look at him, the sound of his voice, still echoes in my head.
He was a brave young guy, around 20 years of age.
Much younger than i was, about 40.
He told me stories about his fiancee, Abigail.
He described her to me, she seemed very beutiful to the point that i fell in love with her through his stories.
I told him about my son, Evert.
He was about adam’s age.
Adam punched the guard that was beating him.
“BANG!”..Adam was gone. Dead, deceased, departed, extinct, lifeless, and inanimate.
I stood there, wishing i was dead too.
