I think I may have had this exact conversation once, except none of the “boys” that I am ever tempted to dismiss with unrealistically simplistic gendered commentary are ever so satisfying as to retort with library boy’s last line.
Great sequel! I like the impatience captured in calling him simple-minded and blowing her hair out of her face, besides the obvious statement “failing to hide impatience from my voice.” But the last line rocks!
Ah ha, I love the second paragraph, the comparison between the two characters. I was escaping reality with imagination. He was, apparently, content to merely catalog reality.
Hilarious. And from my point of view, writing as a girl does get you bonus points.
