The Lunch Surprise
The next day at school, conversation flowed without my input.
“Yeah, eighth grade has been so much fun!”
“And can you imagine high school; oh my gosh, I’m so excited.”
“And we go to DC this year too, aren’t you excited?”
Excitement was on low in my system. It was as if there was a continous echo whispering, “Moving, moving, moving…”
“Hello? Anybody home?”
“Huh? Oh, yeah, sorry,” I was taken away from my own world.
“No problem; we were just talking about things we have to do before high school, basically, what should we do this summer?”
“Well, we could always start with a going away party.”
Everyone stared at me.
“A going away party?” Alex replied, “What are you talking about?”
“Well, I won’t exactly be going to high school here.”
Laughter. Then, various “yeah rights” and “give me a breaks”.
“No, I’m serious. I’m moving to MI this summer.”
Silence.
“Oh. My. God.”
“Yeah.”
To be continued…
