Mistress Elsha Hawk [A philosophical Exploration of the Pen Name that Sounds so Mysteriously Adulterous]
Well, I wasn’t intending the Mistress part of my name to mean a secret lover, or a rich, southern debutante (as in “Pardon me Mistress, but may I have this dance?”), or a person commanding a sort of top-of-the-ladder respect.
I have been using the name HawkMistress as my nom de plume from a book entitled the same by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I didn’t want to use that here, I wanted something different.
So I mixed in a part of my main character from World of Warcraft. She is a Rogue. She is a dirty fighter, she sneaks up on you and backstabs you after picking your pockets. She is confident and stealthy. She is quick, light on her feet, intelligent, and smug. Part of her name is Elsha.
Elsha is a character in another book, Winter of Fire by Sherryl Jordan, which I liked enough to name myself after in a MMORPG .
Thus, Mistress Elsha Hawk was born. From HawkMistress and Elsha. It’s not really that interesting now, is it?
