Jesse was growing old. He never bothered with proper meals when he was working and a lifetime of this had left him thin and weak. Not noticeably except to Jesse himself. His bones would not hold him up for as long and there were some boxes he just could not lift. His younger cousins had taken over most of Sang Vengeance even though they continued to consult him on fairly small matters. On his 10th birthday, Caleb had sworn himself (against his mother’s wishes) to Sang Vengeance and his father. He bore the Red Letters to prove it. Jesse knew his cousins, however capable, would do little to help Sang Vengeance. Caleb would come with him to Titan and grow up as normally as possible to best understand the people he was protecting before returning and reclaiming Sang Vengeance as his own. Jesse’s cousins would object but Jesse had faith in his son.
