Not Another one
“I’m here,” I announced grandly when Lauren and Ember saw me paying my way into the dance. I laughed at the excitement of Lauren and at the murderous glare her face had when I told her I still had to change. I glowered at Ember’s excitement because I already knew he’d be there. I didn’t need the smug look. “I’ll be back.” My voice had the assurance for Lauren and an edge of violence for Ember.
I knew it would happen but I was still annoyed when Natalie joined Ember’s side when we both came up from the bathrooms. “You like him,” Nat prompted.
“So?”
“So?” Ember seemed incredulous. “He likes you and you like him. What’s the issue?”
“My friends all have illusions. That is my issue.” I stormed out and left them in a daze. I was not going to ruin another friendship.
