Okay O.K. oh kay. uhhcay?
My phone woke me up, Jack too. He gave my cheek a sloppy kiss.
The small vibrating black device made the spaceship sound and flashed tiny text ‘one new voicemail.’
I listened. “Hey, Ashley. It’s Tom.â? he said. “I’m going home and I was wondering if you were. Well, whether you are or not, you’re the best thing that ever happened to me, and call me back sometime. Thanks again. Bye”
... Jack heard too.
“Ashley..” he started warningly. “You still sure you’re all mine?”
“I am.. I guess.. Tom just..” I sighed dramatically, blowing my slightly greasy, long bangs out of my eyes.
“We all know that I am not going to call him back, okay?”
“Pfft. Do we now? And why aren’t you?” Jack asked, highly skeptical.
“Because Tom didn’t say ‘call me back sometime’ because he wants to talk to me. He didn’t say ‘you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me’ to persuade me to get back together with him..” I explained, “I think, he was telling me.. he’s going to be okay.”
“Ash..”
“We’re all okay now,” I realized.
