Human Trigger

Funny world we live in when a routine procedure is anything but routine, thought the doctor as he deftly inserted the computer chip in the woman’s abdomen. Doctor Palfrey didn’t even know what the chip was for, but he knew that $1,000,000 was more than enough to carry out a small favor for his old friend and colleague.

“Sew her up,” said Palfrey when the appendectomy was finished. He had no idea that his actions could ultimately kill millions of people. Once he returned to his office he made the pre-arranged phone call to his friend. “It is done.”

“Thanks Hal,” answered the voice at the other end of the line. “You’re doing your country a great service.”

“Well, good for me then. I trust the arrangements have been made for the wire transfer.”

“Of course. Should already be in there, old man. Give the wife my best.”

“Will do,” said Palfrey and hung up the phone. A momentary doubt crossed his mind before he remembered the Corvette he was going to buy at the end of the day. It’s just a little chip.
