More Opinions On Stereotypes
Fear of the unknown. That is where I think that all of these stereotypes come from. Seriously, if you have friends that are of different ethnic groups, you know that these assumptions are not true. It is natural for people to want to be around those who are like them, but it is those people who never come out of their comfort zones that create and perpetuate such ignorance.
My friends of other races and I have had lengthy conversations and lots of laughs about some of the crazy stereotypes that they have heard. Some which I had never heard before like, African-American women are supposed to naturally have larger chest (sad to say I am living proof that can official debunk this one). Once you confront a stereotype you see how silly they are.
I challenge you all, the next time that you have to describe someone, describe them without using race. Some of you may find it surprisingly difficult. You realize that there is more to a person than just the color of their skin.
