Whom that knows love can ignore the trouble it brings?
Whom that fears death can live but a shadowed life?
For knowing love is wonderful,
yet dangerous and wearisome,
and fear of death prevents a focused life.
Whom that befriends the world is not guilty of sin?
Whom that sees the light does not recognize darkness?
For the world is full of desires of the evil,
and one cannot see light unless consumed in the dark.
Whom that holds joy does not hold even more sorrow?
Whom that dwells in bliss does not also know pain?
For sorrow always overcomes joy,
and pain is more tangible than bliss.
