There aren't just flowers in the garden

Giggles rang through the garden, coming from somewhere amongst the lilies. A flash of copper, a sparkle of glitter…a little girl sat in the dirt, laughing and clapping her hands in the shadows of the flowers. She relaxed for a moment, and bright flashes of colours settled on the flowers and leaves around her. At first glance they looked almost like oddly-shaped butterflies, but they were most definitely not. They looked like little people, dressed in petals, leaves, and other small bits of nature.

“You’re my bestest friend, Puck,” the small girl, Abby, crooned to a young male faerie with a smirk on his face. Before the faerie could reply, though, a woman’s voice rang out from the direction of the big house.

“Abby, honey, it’s time to come inside!”

In the blink of an eye, the toddler found herself utterly alone, surrounded by nothing but trembling leaves as the faeries ducked for cover. Face crumpling in disappointment, Abby scrambled to her feet, heading inside.

There was always tomorrow.
