A Bedtime Story (12)
“Um…thanks, for, um, for saving my life back there.” I shifted awkwardly on the log. The hunter smiled at me. “Seems to me that we saved each other’s lives. So I guess we’re even.”
“I guess. Hey, um, what’s your name?”
“Chris. Chris Hansey. And you’re Miss Ava.”
“Ava Brewlinsky. Nice to meet you.” I held out my hand and we shook, laughing. We lapsed into a comfortable silence, watching Cirrus graze. Then Chris turned to me. “So…how exactly did you come to be up in a tree with six guys pointing guns at you?”
I blushed. “Well, it’s a long story..”
“Go ahead! Nothing like a bedtime story, eh?”
“Well, this isn’t exactly something to put you to sleep..”
“Ha! Well, go ahead Miss Ava, I’m listening!” he shifted his back, leaning comfortably against a tree and closing his eyes.
“Well, it all started this morning when I went out for a ride on Cirrus here..”
