Ficlets

Letter from Anso to Marsilio Ficino (February 1495)

Most Illustrious and learned Maestro Ficino.

Having an interest in disseminating world knowledge to the greater glory of God, I endeavor to explain to you the workings of a device I have myself discovered and designed.

I hope that by describing it’s functions to you thusly, I may appeal to your senses as a fellow scholar and enlist your help in acquiring such contacts as might assist in the construction and operation of such devices.

This is not a single machine, but rather a complete system for the creation, storage and printing of texts to be produced more quickly than are currently in the printing houses across Europe in this age and as well books created from my device would be perfect facsimiles of the original.

If you find this to be impossible, I am prepared to demonstrate my theories to you in further correspondence, and ultimately to produce for your inspection a prototypical device.

I commend myself to you and serve at your pleasure.

Your humble servant, Anso of San Geromalo.
