...A River in Egypt

“No I swear I don’t still have feelings for him,” Jacelyn said

She smiled but they didn’t quite reach her hazel eyes.

“Are you sure?” Candice asked

“Yes, I’m sure. I absolutely do not think of him anymore,” Jacelyn

“And you’re not still attracted to him?” Candice said

“Please, I don’t know what I ever saw in him. And I swear I’m not angry that cheated on me with you either,” Jacelyn added
Drumming her fingers on the table

“Really?” Candice asked with hopeful eyes

“Yes, I wish you all the best,” Jacelyn said

“That’s awesome. It’s so great that you can be so mature about this,” Candiced smiled

“Yeah, what’s passed is passed. We should live in the present,” Jacelyn replied

“And you’re not bitter at all?” Candice asked one more time to be sure

“Yes,”

“You, know what?” Candice asked

“What?”

“Denial is a river in Egypt,” Candice spouted

Jacelyn slapped her.

“You’re more perceptive than I give you credit for,” she admitted. She drank the last of her latte and walked away.
