Note to a Childhood Friend
You never were into reality, were you?
When we were kids we talked animatedly about fairies and angels… I remember in fifth grade how I wanted to stop the fairy game. You sent some of your “spies” after me for a week.
I think this is much the same; but go ahead. Your dealings with your new set of peers are of no concern to me. Although I know you’ll only come back for kind words once they’ve scorned you, I’m still open to this half-friendship.
There is nothing wrong with magic. But we’re growing up, friend. It’s time to distinguish between the truth and lies. I know you well by now. When the others raise their eyebrows and wonder, I just laugh, because your habits are so familiar to me.
You’ve changed, in many ways; but you never fail to jump into these things and feel alarmed when it’s over. So go ahead. You know I’m here, you know I’m always here. And I know you’ll always come crawling back when they realize you are who you aren’t.
