Anna
We arrived at the small secluded lake right before the sun started to set. The pink and orange masterpiece in the sky reflected, mirrorlike, in the cool ripples of water. Two cabins stood solitary among the trees on the south end, and I could see Anna coming out of her red house with her scraggly dog Buck following behind. She waved at the car, and I stuck my hand high out the window to wave back.
“Who is that?” Maggie asked curiously.
“Oh, that’s Anna. She used to be really good friends with my mom. She lives next door, although, she lives here year round. She takes care of the house when I’m gone,” I replied.
“Which one is yours?” Maggie asked, peeping her head out the car window.
“The green one,” I answered. As I pulled up, I noticed that the paint had peeled away in a few places on the porch, and the windows could use a good cleaning. Anna trodded up the path from her house waving excitedly.
“Robert! Oh I’ve missed you!” Anna cried out. She looked older than I remembered.
