The Decision of Battle

That’s when I had to make a split decision. Not a very good place to think, that I was sure of, but it had to be done. As soon as the Captain had left, I went to the kitchen. I then took a knife from the cupboard and cut my hair so short that I appeared to be a boy. Which was exactly what I was aiming for. All my life I had been nothing, and now I had a chance to…yes, I will fight.

At that precise moment, a cannonball flew two feet beside me and into the table. Stepping out of the kitchen, I looked onto the deck to see that we were winning. Barely. Looking around, I saw this would be harder than I thought. As I was pondering where to begin, I heard a soft melodic voice behind me.

“Gloria?” It breathed.
