Wives and Stars
“You and your wife are perfectly healthy.” said the doctor.
“But you’re telling me I can’t make love to my wife anymore!”
“I see nothing wrong, but other people—.”
Maury, still dressed in his hospital gown, almost shouted. “Other people? What other people are concerned about my sex life?”
“This is Doctor Simonsen.” A handsome man came into the room. He wasn’t dressed in a labcoat. “He’s not a doctor. He’s an astrophysicist.”
Maury could place the attitude a mile away. An arrogant smugness.
“It’s hard to describe, and I would use concepts you would not understand, said Simonsen. “I have run some tabulations on the recent abnormal number of dying stars. The results are conclusive.”
“Huh?”
“When your wife has an orgasm, a star goes nova.”
Maury thought about recent months. She had been so busy interning at the astrophyisicist lab, so they hadn’t … “How did you get this data?”
Simonson almost looked apologetic. “Experiments. Trials.”
