“Spare me,” she drawled.
He narrowed his eyes, but kept his tone controlled. “I asked nicely.”
“You demanded,” she reminded him. “And I do not take kindly to demands.”
“This is part of your job,” he told her.
She cocked an eyebrow. “Oh really? Is it? I don’t think so. See this desk? It’s mine. See this pile of paper? It is part of my job. Over there, that’s your office with your desk. And I am not your secretary.”
“But you’re the best one to do this,” he said.
“Maybe if you had started off that way, I might have said yes. But I’m not in the mood right now. Plus I have all of this to contend with.” She stood up and picked up her pile of work. “Now, if you’ll excuse me.”
He followed her to the copy room.
“You do realize that all this time you’ve spent trying to get me to do your work could have been spent doing the task you wanted?” She said matter-of-factly.
“Why do you always say no to me?” He asked.
“Because someone has to,” she replied. “Everything comes easy to you. Too easy.”
